In an ancient city, the fabric wakes.

In Japan, there is a long habit of seeing one thing as another.
White gravel becomes the sea; a stone becomes a mountain.
A kimono, once unstitched, returns to a single bolt of cloth.
And waname tailors it into a single piece.
From kimono, to a jacket.
Every piece, a different face.
The patterns and weaves we inherit
grew up inside someone’s everyday life.
We wear them in today’s streets, inside today’s music.
Not keeping old things locked away as they were,
but using them, and passing them on.
That, too, is Japanese creativity.
Danced, played, worn.
And now, the pieces travel on.
When the time comes, the flowers bloom.
